About Department

Introduction
The Department of Sociology is one of the oldest departments in the college. It was initiated at the graduate level in 1996 at Moreshwar Arts, Science and Commerce College, Bhokardan Dist. Jalna. It is because of the increasing importance and scope of studies in Sociology, and by considering the demand of students, the college has expanded the sphere of the subject and introduced Sociology at the postgraduate level with the effect from the academic year 2018-19 by the initiative efforts of Chief Hon. MP Raosaheb Patil Danve.
The Department of Sociology has been established to promote students to acquire knowledge, improve their comprehension skills, develop their interest in research studies, etc. Along with the teaching-learning process, the department has made efforts to organize fieldwork, social survey, and research study tours for the holistic development of students in the respective fields. Likewise, the department has started varying extracurricular activities to encourage students towards active participation in the teaching-learning process. It has conducted various programs, conferences, workshops, seminars, expert lectures, and group discussions related to the academic curriculum. Besides, the department has contributed great efforts to foster innovative skills, experimental ideas, and research-oriented thought processes among the learners. By focusing on the importance and scope of social consciousness, socio-cultural ethics, social responsibility, and social harmony, the department has taken an initiative to implement teaching-learning processes effectively and regularly as per the understanding levels of students. The department has provided updated study materials to the respective students, and offered them detailed information about various website names, links to videos on YouTube, links to e-journals, e-books, a list of reference books available in the college library, etc. Also, the department has provided the eminent resource persons, subject experts, and faculty members of various educational institutions to deliver guest lectures on various occasions.

Objective

● To enlighten students regarding the construction of the social structure of Indian Society.
● To improve observation capabilities, and practical knowledge of students through survey and field work in the respective fields.
● To cultivate the interest of students towards research-oriented activities through practicals and project work.
● To make students conscious about the changing social scenario across the country and world.
● To inculcate socio-cultural values like freedom, equality, fraternity, gender justice, secularism, etc. among the students.
● To guide students about preserving personal ethics like sensitivity, dutifulness, a sense of being detached from addictions, a healthy lifestyle, etc.
