About Department
A term “Natural Science” is coined by Lobster (1861) included the study of botany and zoology gradually these subject were separated and ZOOLOGY now is the branch of science which deals with the studies of animals and its life, biosystematics, genetics etc. This science originated in the work of Hippocrates, Aristotle and Piny. The contribution of individuals such as Carolus Linnaeus (system of nomenclature), Louis Agassis, Thomas H. Huxley, Richard Owen (Homology) Georges Cuvier (Comparative anatomy), Claude Bernard (homeostasis), Charles Darwin (Natural selection) and G. J. Mendel (Inheritance) etc. greatly advanced the field.
2. Establishment Year: 1. Zoology June, 1999
Scope of Subject:
As per five kingdom classification of Whittakaer, it relates to the animals from sponges to mammals, both living and extinct. It deals with various aspects of animal through the media of different sub-disciplines and inter-disciplines from the taxonomy to bioinformatics are studied.
Vision
- To provide a sound education in basic and applied Zoology, broad communication of knowledge about the biology of animal, including their taxonomy, physiology, evolution, endocrinology, genetics, ecology etc.
- Emphasize biological literacy in our teaching outreach program.
- Our intergative focus reflects an interdisciplenry approach in teaching and research.
- We strive for excellence and synergy in our cordinated progress of teaching, learning and research.
Mission
- To provide a sound education in basic and applied Zoology, broad communication of knowledge about the biology of animals, including their taxonomy (type study), physiology, evolution, endocrinology, genetics etc.
- To pramote the students for higher Education (PG and Research) in lifesciences.
- To encourage students with responsibility towards society and significance of their studies for betterment of life on earth.
Objectives
- To impart the basic education in zoology
- To explain the students with diversities in animal life.
- To create consciousness in students about biodiversity its need for survive life on earth.
